The art of tasting

BEFORE TASTING

Choosing the location for tasting

Indoors, possibly without too much sunlight to avoid a negative effect on the beer.

Make sure there isn’t too much difference between the temperature of the beer and the temperature of the glass.

For excellent tasting: avoid smoking, excessive perfumes, spicy snacks, oily substances (lipstick, peanuts, etc.).

We advise you to have a bite of sandwich bread in between beers, to better prepare your senses to the tasting.

Check the difference between the glass temperature and the beer. It shouldn't have too much difference.

Choose the glass

The glass is very important!

Although each beer has its distinct glass there is no need to have 100 different glasses

The lagers and Gueuze are generally served cylindrical glasses.

Specialtiy beers (Trappist, Abbey, strong lager, ...) are generally served in a burgundy style glass.

Fruit beers can be served in champagne style glasses.

By all means avoid all kinds of grease in the glass! Grease will destroy the head.  Rinse the glasses thoroughly using cold and clear water before using them. DO NOT DRY THEM!
