AMSTEIN SA's History

AMSTEIN SA, since 1973

The Amstein SA Company was founded in 1973. Over time it grew rapidly from a small, local company to a national one. Today the company distributes imported beers from all over the world over Switzerland.

The passion

The founder of the company, Jacques Amstein, was among the first ones who believed in the potential of "beers of the world" in Switzerland. He was fascinated by foreign beers and their tradition and started working on the gargantuan task to raise the interest of the Swiss consumer in beer styles and types outside of Switzerland and to gradually change their beer consumption habits. Imported beers quickly proved to be a success and foreign beer specialties became fashionable. As usual the consumer was the winner as the number of beers for sale and the knowledge of beer increased .

The Amstein Company had to struggle with old habits and rigid regulations. For example one food regulation stipulated that beer had to be clear, which excluded distributing unfiltered, cloudy beers in Switzerland.

Belgium as starting point

In his search of different and the most authentic tastes and flavors, Jacques Amstein concentrated particularly on Belgian beers. As a matter of fact the Belgian beer brewing tradition is unique in terms of beer styles and genres. The Amstein Company invited the Swiss consumer to discover the extraordinary diversity of Belgian beers: the original Trappiste beers brewed by monks, unfiltered wheat beers, ales on spontaneous lees etc.

The Amstein Company extended their focus beyond Belgium: Amstein has always looked for special beers and sells the best beers from Germany, France, Great Britain, Mexico, the United States United and many other countries ...

Tradition and modernity

Always ready to discover new beers, Amstein has never hesitated to launch new beers in vogue while supporting real ales. This accounts for the dynamic image of the company: adhere to the tradition on one hand and promote modern beers on the other hand.

The Amstein Company considers themselves "L'Ambassadeur de la Bière". The company fully deserves this title as it has displayed their firm commitment and philosophy from the beginning.
