Description
The 2013 wine year finally returned to the glorious past of late vintages. After a cold, wet winter and a dull, very cool and particularly well-watered spring, the vines began growing a fortnight later than the ten-year average, a delay they maintained right up to harvest. A hot, dry summer, with the most sunshine ever recorded in Champagne, was particularly beneficial for grape quality. The rains at the beginning of September were quickly replaced by an easterly wind, which kept the grapes healthy right up to harvest. The harvest for Dom Pérignon ran from September 28 to October 15, and tasting the grapes revealed a promising balance between acidity and roundness.
