- Description"On the shores of the Indian Ocean, at the foot of the Piton de La Fournaise Volcano, Distillery Savanna has been hand-crafting rare rums since 1870. After more than a century at Domaine de Savanna, the distillery moved to the Bois Rouge site in Saint Andre on the east coast in 1992. Released in a limited edition to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of this event in 2022, this old Agricole rum is a blend of six carefully hand-picked barrels. Nose: The nose begins with aromas of sweet pastry and warm raisin brioche. Pleasant prune and vanilla notes quickly appear, then orange blossom and tart apple bring a livelier, more floral touch. Once allowed to breathe, the 57% high proof opens, and a waxy woodiness appears more clearly. Pineapple and cream can be detected, adding to the rich sweetness. Body: the wonderful thick texture is complimented by honey and notes of wax. Sweet pastries and cooked pineapple soon appear followed by strong vanilla notes. Some nice dry apricot rounds off the taste. Finish: Smoky notes with tobacco. Lingering leather and spices leave a pleasant sensation of sweetness."
