- DescriptionThis Génépi Intense liqueur is obtained by maceration and is emblematic of the Alps thanks to the development of tourism. The Génépi of the Chartreux Fathers of the Grande Chartreuse has been distilling since 1605, that is to say more than 4 centuries. “Genépi” is a generic term given by the inhabitants of the region to several aromatic plants (mugwort) from the Alps. Artemisia is an alpine plant that grows particularly on the moraines of glaciers and high altitude scree. The tradition is to harvest these plants in August. The maceration in alcohol of different kinds of artemisia will give a particular taste to this Génépi liqueur. The GENÉPI Traditionnel from the Chartreux Fathers has an alcohol content of 40% and a capacity of 70 cl. Each distillery and the mountain dwellers have their Genepi recipe that everyone keeps secret. The Carthusians, who have been distilling plants for over 400 years, have their own secret Genepi recipe, including several macerations and distillations. This particular process allows the alpine plants to deliver all their aromas.
