The Rolls-Royce of Single Malts This whisky has the reputation of being one of the best single malts in the world. Founded in 1824, Macallan was one of the first legal distilleries in Scotland. The Macallan estate, sitting on a hill near Craigellachie on the banks of the River Spey, bears the mysterious name of 'Easter Elchie House'. Situated where the river rushes past in the shadow of the Gram-Pian Mountains, the place offers unique conditions and in particular a unique climate for whisky making. The distillery was founded by Alexander Reid and was first licensed in 1824. The distillery was initially operated as a supplementary source of income alongside the farm, until it was taken over by Roderick Kemp in 1882 and developed by his family over the next century. Full & mellow The classic Macallan. 100% Sherry Oak. Its flavour and colour come from first fill European and American oak sherry casks, with a large proportion of Spanish sherry casks. Tasting Nose: Creamy toffee with a hint of toffee, notes of candied orange and freshly cut oak. Palate: Delicious honey, spicy wood and citrus notes. Finish: Lingering oak notes, slightly dry and warm sweetness.
