Dark ruby red in colour and pours with a dense lasting white head.

The malt aroma is immediately present and lasting with a tiny hint of roast barley, with an unmistakable fruity and almost herbal quality to the aroma due to the late addition of Mt. Hood hops.

The smooth malt taste is balanced by a caramel sweetness. The additional pinch of roast barley during the brewing process lends a distinctive bite which is balanced by a crisp medium bitterness. The caramalt flavours follow all the way to the end.

Brewery's info

Founded by the O’Hara family in 1996 and still family owned and operated today, Carlow Brewing Company also known as O’Hara’s Brewery, is located in the heart of Ireland’s traditional malt and hop growing “Barrow Valley” region which has strong historical linkages to the Irish brewing industry. Pioneers of the Irish craft brewing renaissance, the O’Hara’s brewing team are set on the path to revert Ireland’s brewing landscape back to flavoursome beers. Brewing is our heritage and we brew to preserve that legacy.

This beer is a stand out in the Irish red beer category. The malt body is as impressive as a bock, albeit in a uniquely Irish way.
